Much to my surprise, a set of articles that I considered to be off the beaten track, have been received better than I thought they would be.
Indeed, the last one – for-the-love-of-paul – generated far more feedback than I ever expected.
Therefore, wile they remain popular, I thought I’d push my luck with another one.
This time, I’ve chosen the christian name Alan / Allan to comprise a starting XI from, after much soul searching I’ve come up with the following:
Goalkeeper – Alan Judge
Defender – Alan Garner
Defender – Alan Nielsen
Defender – Alan Harper
Defender – Alan Sheehan
Midfield – Alan West
Midfield – Alan Slough
Midfield – Allan Campbell
Midfield – Alan McCormack
Forward – Alan Steen
Forward – POSITION VACANT
Substitute – Alan White
Once again, I couldn’t quite complete the XI, with my efforts to find a second striker proving to be troublesome.
Therefore, I you can deep dig and find a player who fits the criteria, please feel free to drop their name into the comments section beneath this article, or indeed I you can think of anyone that you feel should have been included.

Alan Starling, goalkeeper
great shout, back in the days when I first started going
Alan McBain played for us during the 60’s but I think he played at the back. I remember Alan Slough making his debut for us, also holds a place in my heart as he presented me with my Player of the Year award at Cottonmill United in St.Albans in the 70’s. Happy days !!
And they keep coming, Alan Goodall.
