Our trip to the Etihad Sadium was always going to be a tough task considering our precarious injury situation.
Forced to field something akin to a make-shift starting XI, with numerous regular first team players missing, there was always the possibility that we could take a drubbing.
Indeed, in my pre-match ramblings I did say that if we conceded early then we could be in for a long afternnon.
Sadly, the manner in which we fell behind, as early as the second minute, was indicative of the way things are going for us at the moment with the ball cannoning into the net off the face of our Japanese defender, Hashioka.
After that slice of misfortune it was always going to be an uphill struggle and despite battling on bravely, the aforementioned drubbing occurred with title chasing Manchester City running out 5-1 winners.
But, amidst the mayhem, there were some bright spots.
Firstly, we got to witness a superb goal from Ross Barkley, reducing the arrears to 3-1 and giving us brief hope of an unlikely comeback and, secondly, the Hatters support, despite the precarious predicament of their side, vociferously and relentlessly cheering on their side.
But, in the grand scheme of things, our Premier League future was not about how we performed yesterday, we were never expected, even more so with or injury situation, to take anything from the game.
We are perfectly aware that we have FIVE cup finals coming up knowing that our survival is in our own hands, starting with a massive fixture, next weekend, at Kenilworth Road against Brentford.
