Luton Town Begin Season With Posh Encounter

|

Today is the day we have been waiting for, a day when dreams are formalised, and the calendar is scrutinised.

We have reached that point, in the summer, whereby the EFL Championship fixtures are released, and we see who Luton Town will open their 2021/2022 campaign against.

Has the fixture computer been cruel or kind?

Well now we can reveal all.

Although Sky Sports will choose to manipulate the fixture dates to suit their own live coverage needs, we can reveal that on 07-August-2021, the Hatters will start the season with a home fixture against Peterborough United.

As far as local derby fixtures go, it almost falls into that category.

But with Luton Town looking to get off to a good start, what else does the month of August have in store for us?

Well, following the Peterborough United game, we travel to take on newly relegated West Bromwich Albion (14-August) followed by a long midweek trip to Barnsley (17-August) before hosting Birmingham City (21-August) followed by another home game against newly relegated Sheffield United (28-August).

On reflection, it is a tough start for the Hatters with two of the five games coming against sides who were playing Premier League football last season.

But, if we are to improve on last seasons’ 12th place finish, it is a challenge we must rise to.

However, what are your feelings on the start given to us by the EFL fixture computer?

Please feel free to have your say in the comment facility beneath this article.

Morning mh, a great opening game. As for the others I relish them personally remember last season an Norwich after their drop down so I believe it gives us a slight edge. Play them early we know how tough this div is. They have to settle in a new div. So let’s play them now rather than twice after Oct when they have settled down.

Good start to the season, get some hard games 8n early and then you can see where you are with the new players. Let’s hope for a full house in the first game and let the players hear what 5hey have been missing. Coyh and England

Good point Chris, hit them early, just hope spectators can go for the first game and COVID hasn’t hit us hard again with a new variant

If he does you can bet he’ll join that long list of players that score against their former club

i’m not so sure playing a newly promoted side first game is good news. I remember watching us turn over Crystal Palace away in our first game in the Championship 2005, we also took points off Middlesbrough in our first game back in the Championship in 2019.
One of the relegated Premiership sides would of been my choice for 1st game, they’d of hated every second of playing to KR.
