Two days to go and the Hatters will step onto one of the biggest stages in football, Wembley Stadium, as they prepare to battle for a place in the Premier League.

As you are well aware, our opponents will be Coventry City, a club who are chasing the same dream.

Ahead of what promises to be a scintillating fixture, I thought I’d take a brief look at THREE of the key figures likely to feature for Coventry City.

First up is Viktor Gyökeres a 24-year-old striker who has had a tremendous season. In the 49 games he has played, in all competitions, the Swedish striker has netted on 22 occasions and has also provided 11 assists.

Gyökeres joined Coventry City on a permanent deal in 2021. Since moving to the club, his statistics show he has made 110 league appearances and netted 41 times. Before joining Coventry City, he spent loan spells at both Swansea City and Coventry City from his parent club Brighton and Hove Albion.

His scoring prowess had also seen him collect 13 Swedish caps and the Hatters defence will need to keep a close watch on this prolific striker as if he is given any chances, he could ruin those dreams we all cherish.

Second on my list is a midfielder, Gustavo Hamer. Although born in Brazil he has appeared on the international scene for Holland. Aged 25, Hamer is a midfielder who has an eye for goal, in 44 games he has notched 10 goals and provided a further 10 assists.

Signed from the Dutch side, PEC Zwolle, Coventry City paid in excess of £1 million for his services. Last time out, in the EFL Championship play-off semi-final second leg, against Middlesbrough, it was Hamer who scored the only goal of the tie to secure a place, for his club, at Wembley.

Quite capable of dictating the pattern of play, Luton Town will have to ensure he is well marshalled and isn’t allowed to spray those passes around or be given a glimpse of the goal.

Third up is Kyle McFadzean, a veteran defender who at 36-years-of-age is in the twilight of his career. A rugged defender who will, no doubt, be tasked with keeping the Hatters strike duo of Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo quiet.

Signed from Burton Albion, in 2019, McFadzean will also have to be watched when it comes to set pieces having scored, from his defensive role, 2 goals in the 38 appearances he has made.

Here’s hoping all THREE are not given the chance to shine.
