Luton – Things Aren’t What They Used To Be On The BBC

On Saturday night, for the first time in as long as I can remember, I tuned into Match of the Day.

To say I was disappointed is an understatement.

Now I’ve nothing against Micah Richards, but, to me, he’s becoming the new Clare Balding, every time I turn the TV on he’s sat there giving his verdict on events.

Whether it be coverage of football or light entertainment shows, he just seems to be everywhere.

But, like I said, I’ve got nothing against the guy, and I’ll be honest and say if I was in his shoes, I’d grab every opportunity that was offered my way, after all it must pay well.

However, what really irks me about Match of the Day is that it has now become a show where what the experts reckon happened seems to take up more discussion time than I can ever remember and seems to last longer than the actual highlights of the game.

Now, is it just me or do others who frequent this site agree with me?

Meanwhile, I’ll stick with Sky Sports for my football coverage!

Please feel free to air your views in the comment facility beneath this article, you never know Micah Richards might join us!

I agree with you, MOTD is more of a talking shop for so called experts.
I never watch it live, but on record and wizz through the talk, that way the 90 mins can be covered in 40-45 mins,

The BBC aren’t the only media group who give the glory hunter clubs far more than their fair share of coverage. Some town centre sports shops, Stevenage being my home town, fail to sell their local clubs kits and merchandise whilst having tons of glory hunter items. Luton was also like this until not so long back. But what irks me is the “Magic of the Cup” being mentioned by the reporters of cup games who then invariably remark…”You can understand the manager resting his players for a big premier league game next week”! The only path to glory for the “Lesser” clubs has been belittled by the media for financial gain. The 3rd Round of the FACup showed live games invoking all Premier League clubs with the BBC’s big game being Man City v Chelsea! Mostly using second team players too. As our great chant goes…”F the FA and the Football League…”. Still most clubs hold their record attendances in FA Cup games, including our 30,000 and watfud’s 34,000. I find it quite sickening, but understandable, considering the attitude of the same media companies attitude to our FA Cup.

I presume the BBC have a limit imposed on them as to how much football they can broadcast in a highlights show, so the talking heads are not actually depriving viewers of any football. action. Whether you find their patter interesting is another matter.
