The local derby, against Watford, labelled by the TV as the M1 derby, is almost upon us.

After being on the wrong end of a hammering in the reciprocating fixture, the Hatters support will be hoping that Rob Edwards, against a side he managed for a short period of time (traditional for Watford managers), can inspire his side to get revenge.

The fixture also enables me to add another to our ongoing series, as detailed by the article headline.

Back in April 2021 – they-played-for-both-luton-watford – after a lot of deliberation, I came up with the following starting XI (plus substitute) for a side that contained players who had appeared for both clubs.

Goalkeeper – Mark Tyler

Defender – Clarke Carlisle
Defender – Alan Garner
Defender – Sean Dyche
Defender – Matthew Jackson

Midfielder – Michael Keen
Midfielder – Peter Nicholas
Midfielder – Matthew Spring

Striker – Paul Furlong
Striker – Kerry Dixon
Striker – Andre Gray

Substitute – Wayne Andrew

At the time of compiling the XI (plus substitute), I was amazed, considering the rivalry, so many players had appeared for both clubs.

But that list grew even longer when I asked the readership to nominate others who also fitted the criteria with the following being proposed:

• Alec Chamberlain
• Jamie Hand
• Lee Nogan
• Steve Kabba
• Tony Gregory
• Rodney Green
• Billy Jennings
• Graham French

Plus, events since the original article was published contrived to allow me to add a manager to the side.

Therefore, after carefully considering the additions provided and also shuffling the original XI to offer a more balanced side, I’ve come up with the following revised starting XI (plus substitute and manager).

Goalkeeper – Alec Chamberlain

Defender – Clarke Carlisle
Defender – Alan Garner
Defender – Sean Dyche
• Defender – Matthew Jackson

Midfielder – Michael Keen
Midfielder – Peter Nicholas
Midfielder – Matthew Spring

Striker – Graham French
Striker – Kerry Dixon
Striker – Andre Gray

• Substitute – Paul Furlong

And of course, managed by none other than Rob Edwards.

But what is your verdict on the revised XI, would your changes have been different?
