Back in the early stages of the season, August to be precise, here at Vital Luton, we focussed on our young centre forward, Elijah Adebayo.
Not knowing just what a fine season we were about to have, we ran an article relating to Adebayo developing enough, after a decent first season, to be the main man when it came to scoring the goals that would stand us in good stead for a decent season – adebayo-is-your-main-man.
Naturally, the article was followed by a poll whereby we asked you to predict just how many Championship goals our young striker would score.
Three options were provided:
• 5-10 goals
• 11-18 goals
• 19 – or more goals
with the majority, 63% going for 11-18 goals.
That option proved to be the correct one with Adebayo hitting the net 16 times last season.
Unfortunately, a hamstring injury prevented Adebayo from featuring in the crucial games relating to the play-offs, one can only ponder whether things would have turned out differently, against Huddersfield Town and then Nottingham Forest in the Wembley final, if Adebayo had been fit.
Indeed, the 34% who predicted the striker would score 19 or more goals could well have been correct, I guess we’ll never know.
