Luton – The Hard Work Has Still To Be Done

An away point, at Reading, was enough to secure Luton Town a play-off place for the second season running.

We can only hope that the Hatters make a better fist of it this time around than our last experience in this situation when Huddersfield Town beat us over two legs.

Quite rightly, for a team on one of the lowest budgets in the EFL Championship, the plaudits have been coming our way.

Rob Edwards in his post-match interview with the BBC, summed it up perfectly, when he commented:

“I think it’s a great night for the football club. We’re guaranteed a play-off spot with three games to go.”

Indeed, we’re now in the position where we can sit back and see how the fight below us turns out and who we will face in the play-off semi-finals.

Any preferences anyone?

But there are two important things to consider.

Firstly, in the middle of an unbeaten run, we can’t use those three remaining games, Middlesbrough (h), Blackburn Rovers (a), Hull City (h) to experiment, we need to plough on, relentlessly, like a long-distance runner heading for the finishing line, looking ahead, not backwards, not even sidewards.

Any dip in performance levels could have a hugely detrimental effect if we try to raise them again for the semi-final.

Secondly, having made the play-offs for a second consecutive season, we must ensure it is us, no one else, that claims that third promotion place and are dining at the top table of English football next season.

There is nobody we should fear among the chasing pack, all are beatable on the day, all have weaknesses and all, like us, will be striving for glory.

I’m under no illusions that becoming a Premier League club and maintaining that status, will be a huge challenge, victories will be scarce, there will be days when we’re played off the park, days where the elite toy with us, but as long as we fight and give 100% there will be no complaints from me!

COYH’s, let’s finish this job we’ve started so well, now is not the time for the feint hearted.

well done for reaching the playoffs yet again. must keep fitness levels high, and avoid injury. maybe rotate players. why take unecessary risks, save ourselves for the playoffs. i don’t care who we play, as long as we try our best, as i am sure they will. people i have talked with are saying we should groundshare with M.K.dons if promoted, i totally disagree. all the fans who have supported us since the F.A. dropped us into non league status, need to see there team playing at kenilwoth road. just because we have’nt got diamond encrusted showers for the diva’s, tough luck.COYH.

I’m on Jimbos side, how many times has Morris come off niggles or injured in last 5 games? adebayo not yet fit for 90mins? Key players at the back out or taken precautions with?
Imagine going into the play offs with Morris,Eli, Lockyer and others not available?
Time to use the youth for me, let Thorpe, Muskwe, Taylor, Watson and co try and prove themselves.
