Well, exactly how do you put what we witnessed last night into words, such was the performance?
I thought about writing this piece last night but with emotions running so high, I thought better of it, besides after that incredible performance, I’m guessing I wasn’t the only one looking to catch last orders, in the pub, to celebrate a monumental win.
Last night the Hatters were everything I hoped they would be, trailing 2-1 from the first leg, every one of the starting XI gave, what I believe, the performance of the season. Nobody dallied on the ball, everyone gave 100% effort and Sunderland were given no time whatsoever on the ball.
The pressing and tackling were ferocious but stayed within the laws of the game and we looked a far better outfit than the opposition. That wish for an early goal came true, courtesy of Gabe Osho, set the tone for the whole game and when Tom Lockyer netted the second, Kenilworth Road exploded in a cacophony of news.
Luton looked like they were going to score every time they had a set-piece whilst Sunderland barely, with all their talented attackers, failed to trouble Ethan Horvath more than just on the one occasion.
For Luton Town a date at Wembley awaits us, for Sunderland, we can only offer our commiserations but what I find intriguing is that visiting social media, little Luton Town appear to have the backing of most of the country when it comes to reaching the Premier League, as the following posts perfectly illustrate:
@WBA fan here. Savour the moment as you deserve to be there on merit. After what you’ve been through in the past decade, this is simply remarkable. 90 mins away from a return to the top flight after 31 years.

I could have listed hundreds more, but site protocol forbids it, but I’m sure you get the message, Wembley beckons, and we have as good a chance as any, now, of gate crashing the top tier of English football.

Luton – Let’s End This Play-Off Hoodoo
Morning mh, truly a wonderful evening.against a very good team.shame they don’t have the class of supporters we have. They are squealing we are cloggers an lumpers.maybe safc should move to Durham they would have a nicer class of support. Now on to the nitty gritty Wembley an my biggest fear the pitch. I’ve noticed that we struggle when we play good players on large pitches so I’m worried about that . In tonight’s game if I’m honest I would rather face Coventry than Middlesbrough at Wembley my opinion.
the pitch is a worry and I agree, Coventry might be the better option
The size of the pitch is a worry , so what if Rob moves things around a bit just one on top and put legs in midfield to stop who ever we play from moving the ball around to much just a thought . Coyh .
