Luton – That Awful Term Inflation

Image for Luton – That Awful Term Inflation

Sat watching Prime Minister’s question time yesterday, a gloomy picture was being painted about the drastic rise in the cost of living.

It seems that those that control our country have little or no idea of how to stem inflation and provide for those who are having, next winter, to decide between heating or eating.

But, watching the debate, something occurred to me that could have ramifications for our football club.

With inflation at its highest point for forty years, are we in danger of falling short, monetary wise, for our Power Court development.

Much was said about the possibility of promotion, to the Premier League, providing the funds to more than complete the development, but, as we all know, we fell short on that front.

Inflation is affecting everything not just food and fuel prices.

Companies are putting up the prices of their commodities to compensate for the rapid increase in fuel prices, something that will surely see the Power Court development costs rise.

The longer the start of the project is delayed, I fear the worse the situation will be become.

Hopefully, there’ll be some reassuring news coming from within the club soon about a concrete, excuse the pun, start date.

Otherwise, I fear that my late dads words about him not living long enough to see a new stadium will apply to me as well.

Morning MH Your absolutely right reaching the premiership would have answered our prayers money wise but was not to be .as goal attempts were not taken.

As a 77year old I like you fear I may never see us in the new stadium. Surely 2020 now needs to look into someone/company who would help to additionally fund the new stadium and be named after their company. examples being. Emirates,, King Power etc How about Whitbread Stadium or dare I say the Utilita Stadium?

I am another one who has been waiting for the new stadium since the 1950s.
The original plan was for Lewsey Park in Leagrave High Street but local opposition put local councillors against it. They justified their decision by saying the floodlights would distract motorists on the M1 then under construction.
The Directors have proved themselves very capable and The present scheme is the only one that has got this far. So let’s support it.

I quite agree, us 70 years + must wonder if we will have the pleasure of sitting and watching a game. The saga has been going on as long as I’ve supported the Town, late 60’s.

Let’s hope for a positive and swift conclusion.

the world of finance, building, councils, changing circumstances, all in the mixing pot, will always lead to changes being made. if covid hadnt struck, i fancy the stadium would now be under construction. changes cant be avoided, but will always lead to delays. you know that 2020 will not want to overstretch finances, dont want points deducted again. we all want a new stadium ,a lot of people will miss seeing it, but thats a fact of life. lets hope the building starts soon. the promise of a new stadium has been ongoing for many years, we shouldnt get upset. keep looking forward.
