Luton Target Has Contract Extended

After the quick signings of Fred Onyedimna and Reece Burke, it has all gone a little quiet on the transfer speculation front.

Hopefully, moves are afoot to add to the squad, especially a striker, without the talks becoming too public.

But trawling through the media this morning there is one piece of speculation that grabbed my attention.

Lurking in the pages of The 72, is an update on a player that has previously been linked with the Hatters, Carlos Mendes-Gomes.

The Morecambe forward was part of the side that recently earned promotion to League One, in the League Two play-off final at Wembley.

However, his contributions during the play-off mini-tournament did not, in my opinion, do enough to suggest the 22-year-old is ready for the step-up to the Championship.

Which is why the news that his club, Morecambe, have activated a year-long extension clause on his contract, does not faze me.

A clause like the one that has become activated is common-place and is usually there to safeguard the club in case a transfer leaves them short-changed.

Mendes-Gomes may have scored 16 goals last season, but I belong to the camp that believes Luton can do better when it comes to the transfer market.

But is that a view you concur with?
