This afternoon (Saturday), Luton Town crashed to a heavy defeat, at Kenilworth Road against Birmingham City, losing 5-0.
It was the first time in 59 games that Birmingham had scored more than 2 goals in a game.
Well, what can you say?
Personally, I am speechless.
Ahead of the game and based on the spirited performance the Hatters gave against Barnsley, at Oakwell, on Tuesday night, I had high hopes that Luton could make it two wins on the bounce and consolidate their position in the top eight of the Championship table.
But what is it about Birmingham based clubs that seem, now, to be our undoing, first West Bromwich Albion and now Birmingham City?
To put it bluntly, it was a shambolic ninety minutes.
Perhaps social media can unravel what was, ahead of the game, unthinkable.
In fact, it was that bad that I was not the only person who noticed some of the support sneaking out very early:
People walking out in the 82th min 🤡

And as for the overall performance:
That is an absolute disgrace of a performance. Jones needs to sort that out quickly cause that was embarrassing

Absolutely awful 😩

Totally embarrassing. They didn’t even look arsed every time it went in. Naismith not a centre half

Toothless performance.

And matters are not improved when even the Birmingham City fans have a pop at how bad we were:
Worst team we’ve ever played I think
— Max Bradley (@MRMAXBRADLEY_) August 21, 2021
Were we really that bad?
The beauty of football is that games come along thick and fast but, unfortunately, we have got a full week before we get the chance to show we can do better than this, but there again we could hardly do worse, could we?
