When, in the 13th minute, Luke Berry put the Hatters ahead in what was a must-win game, hopes were high that Luton Town could take the three points on offer in what was clearly a relegation dog-fight.
But those hopes were dealt a crushing blow when with just six minutes left, Barnsley equalised, taking the wind out of mine and all other Luton supporters sails.
The result leaves Luton rooted to the bottom of the table with four games left to play and with the club four points adrift of safety, although that, courtesy of our awful goal difference, could be treated as five.
Whilst it is still possible for the Hatters to survive, the last two results have left their mark on the Luton faithful and viewing social media this morning there is an air of doom and gloom circling over the club.
The consensus, borne out by the posts below:
That could be it for us. Terrible defending, look so fragile in midfield without Rea, simply just not good enough.

Honestly, if there was a performance we needed and then you imagine the complete opposite, that’s what we gave. Well and truly in the mud.

Embarassment. Poor performance.
No effort.
No quality.

suggest that all we’ve to look forward to is a return to League One.
Not a pretty thought but we’ve survived worse, have we not!
