Towards the back end of last week, in our third run of the series, I put my neck on the block and predicted how the Championship games involving teams involved in the promotion chase would go.
Leading the way, in the comment facility beneath the article – something-for-the-weekend-sir –
my predictions for the six games selected (see below)
• Blackpool v Coventry City DRAW (AWAY WIN)
• Middlesbrough v Preston North End HOME WIN (HOME WIN)
• Millwall v Huddersfield Town HOME WIN (AWAY WIN)
• Stoke City v Norwich City DRAW (DRAW)
• Sunderland v Luton Town DRAW (DRAW)
• Watford v Wigan Athletic HOME WIN (DRAW)
hardly set the world on fire.
Yet again I couldn’t get more than 50% of the predictions right, scoring just 3 out of 6, although, as the title of this article says, it is getting better but not much.
But, even though the Hatters dropped points, controversially, away to Sunderland, courtesy of a disputed penalty, it still proved to be a decent weekend for Luton, with our rivals for a play-off spot not faring as well as I’d anticipated.
Watford, our next opponents, dropped two home points against Wigan, Millwall made a mess of a home fixture against struggling Huddersfield Town losing all three points, and Norwich City dropped two points on the road at Stoke.
The only negative aspects of the weekend were Middlesbrough winning, I reckon the gap between us and them is now the maximum we can allow it to be if we harbour ambitions of catching them and Coventry winning, emphatically, at Blackpool, could Coventry be the team that at the last minute, creeps into a play-off place?
But, importantly, how did you do?

The home form let me down… Measly 1.
7 games in April, how many penalties will be conceded (dubious or not?).
