Luton Set To Break Transfer Record Claim

|
Image for Luton Set To Break Transfer Record Claim

With six signings already secured this summer transfer window, could signing number seven be the most dramatic, money-wise?

The reason I ask is that, according to, among others, The 72 are implying the Hatters are on the verge of breaking their transfer record to bring the Barnsley striker, Carlton Morris, to the club.

A fee of £2 million appears to be prevalent in all the reports I’ve stumbled upon which would certainly eclipse our previous transfer record.

Morris who, if the deal goes through, would follow Cauley Woodrow to Kenilworth Road, from South Yorkshire, is 26-years-of-age and, last season, scored 7 goals in 28 Championship outings for Barnsley.

His goal scoring ratio isn’t the best, but his work-rate and tenacity are his key attributes according to our referenced source.

Bu, if the deal goes through, we might have to ask ourselves whether, behind the scenes, there are talks taking place that could see Elijah Adebayo move on.

Is that the possible plan you see evolving or have I added 2 and 2 and made 5?

It sounds like I’m banging the Pelly drum now but I’m not… Love Pelly and is certainly Championship grade… Saying that, he is the only candidate who could attract decent money to cover a deal of this size aside from Elijah and if given the option then it’s fair to say you would have to back keep Elijah… Swapping a striker who fired us to play offs for a strike force who fell to promotion doesn’t sound wise… Hopefully just the transfer gossip mill rumbling on and no deal needs to be made.

    • Steve Bahrain says:

      * strike force who fell to relegation… Sorry

    • Mad Hatter says:

I’m hoping it gets no further than the speculation stage!

Morning mh, I’ve said in a previous post Morris at £2 million with his record or rudoni with his no contest. Or can we buy both? Without selling ade that to me is the biggest question. Are the board giving nj the chance as he’s asked to back him an go for it. Or will they balance the books. That’s the bigger question.

        • Mad Hatter says:

I hope it’s a mixture of both Chris but give the preference, like you, I’d tale Rudoni over Morris.

  • Danny says:

£2m for a injury prone striker who scored the same amount of goals as Luke Berry last season yet played more games really doesn’t sound like a great deal. Hopefully it’s just a smoke screen to divert attention away from getting the Rudoni deal done

please sell ruddock. get as much as you can. he’s days are over. having said that, he will be first on team list. even if ,as last year,he was carrying an injury. play a fit player, maybe. ? he was good for luton in years gone by, but he can’t perform in this league.use your head not your heart. regarding steves comment about ruddocks worth, i would rate campbell s worth twice that of ruddock.COYH.

    • Steve Bahrain says:

Hi Jimbo, was weighing up the realistic guys we would possibly want to move on. Not that Campbell wasn’t worth more than Pelly.

  • Chris winter says:

I’m still trying to come to terms with the fact that we are preparing to pay £2 million for this guy when we can have rudoni for £1 million. A marque signing this isn’t an overpriced 😕😕😕😕

    • Mad Hatter says:

my only worry about Rudoni is whether he can make the jump to the Championship and make an instant impact.

  • jimbo says:

    thanks for that steve.COYH.

  • Danny says:

i wouldn’t be surprised to hear if we are trying to add some players as a makeweight into any potential deal, whether that be for Rudoni or Morris. Berry has been mentioned on here previously and is ex Barnsley whilst Gomes may well be of interest along with Thorpe who may appeal to Wimbldeon

  • hatter75 says:

Morning MH Where can we get this £2 million from and do we need to?
It seems to me the reason we are considering this deal (if not just paper talk) is because one of our other strikers is about to depart.
Is the money possibly coming from the Power Court fund as little has been mentioned of how this project is developing? Are 2020 counting on promotion to enable the necessary funding to enable the new ground to move forward?

  • Danny says:

i’ll add Burnley, previously linked & in need of a striker, they have the funds required to prise him away

  • Dave Jones says:

We don’t need five strikers! Therefore Morris in only makes any sense if Adebayo is on his way.

  • Alistair Litchfield says:

I would sell Pelly and Potts to raise money for another top signing. Please also give Gomes and Thorpe a decent chance with first team football. Both have massive potential. Pelly and Potts have reached their ceilings.

  • Jamis says:

Pity we didn’t go for Scott Twine instead of Mendez Gomez last season. I mentioned him 2 years ago when at Swindon. Burnley have recently brought him for several million. I got to have faith with our leaders though. They’ve more than earned that. Gary Sweet has been brilliant…even though he lied to me about Power Court.
