Luton Town scouts have been searching the Republic of Ireland in an attempt to find some cut-priced talent.

Top of Kevin Blackwell’s shopping list is said to be Cork City’s striker Denis Behan who scored a hat trick in his club’s 4-0 Cup quarter-final replay win.

Two other unnamed players are also under surveillance, one of whom is rumoured to be former Hatters youth player Matthew Judge who was shown the door by Mike Newell in 2004 despite earning his first cap for the Republic of Ireland U-19 side.

Matthew had a job finding a new club and moved to Southend on trial, and when they did not offer him a contract, the former Spurs trainee signe for Dagenham & Redbridge in the Conference.

Unable to break into the Daggers first-team, he was released and had spells with Heybridge Swifts and Harlow Town.

However, he returned to his native Ireland to sign for Sligo Rovers during the summer of 2006 in the Eircom league, and has begun to fulfil his potential and has been scoring regularly for his team.

However, the boss said that nothing will happen before January in that area due to the regulations regarding Irish players, and also the rules of the transfer windows.

Meanwhile, Blackwell states that he is awaiting news on injury plagued players Peschisolido, Parkin and Underwood before considering a move into the loan market. If the news is such that they will be unavailable for 4 to 5 weeks he may make a move to bring in a couple of replacements on a short term basis.

Finally, Marlon Beresford is reported in the local press as ‘closing in on a loan move to Oldham Athletic.’
