Luton Town’s players have agreed to defer their wages for a further week to assist the administrators to stabilise finances at the club, after a meeting with the PFA Deputy Chief Executive Mick McGuire.

After the metting McGuire said:

They have. We are going to look at it on a weekly basis.’

‘I haven’t had to say too much because their message has come out loud and clear. Playing for five weeks, not being paid and winning two of the last three games tells you there’s a fantastic collective spirit.

‘I only had to apologise in taking our time in getting to them because it’s been difficult getting all the facts and figures to protect their position.

‘It’s very clear that it’s a difficult position in administration and we’re always very positive that we’ll come out of it into a CVA (Company Voluntary Arrangement) and the players will be able to continue with their careers and be well looked after in the way they have.

‘The contracts are sacrosanct and as long as the club stays in being then they’ll all be protected. At this moment it’s a difficult one because they’ve not been paid for five weeks and there’s no guarantees going forward that they are going to get their full monies, in fact, they won’t do.

‘To a man they’re looking very strong that they want to carry on and collectively pursue a successful way forward for Luton and they’ve been very positive.’

Good on yer, lads! Now go out and spank Millwall and Forest and secure the glamour FA cup tie against Liverpool.

The fans applaud you!
