Luton – Nathan Jones Honest Admission

After the disappointment at the defeat at Bramall Lane, last Saturday, Luton got back to winning ways last night.

With such a hectic fixture schedule, Nathan Jones was always going to make changes and, as a result, it took a while for the team to gel.

The visitors had the better of the first half, but it was Luton who entered half time in the lead, courtesy of a header from Tom Lockyer.

Sadly, the lead didn’t last long with Andreas Wiemann producing a smart finish to put the visitor’s level.

But victory was to belong to Luton when their top-scorer, Elijah Adebayo, was on hand to finish from close range to give the Hatters the three points and move Luton up to 10th in the Championship table.

After the game though, as reported by The BBC, Nathan Jones gave an honest admission regarding his sides performance, remarking:

“Performance-wise we were a mile off where we need to be, it’s probably one of the worst performances.

“Credit to Bristol City because they must have contributed to that in terms of how they played, but we were a mile off.

“Championship wins, Championship points are so hard to come by, you have to do so much for them and tonight we just ground it out because we were nowhere near our fluent best, nowhere near our energetic best, our aggressive best and that showed.

“We really did look lacklustre, but I’ll take the three points.”

And so will I Nathan.

Next up is a visit from Blackburn Rovers, this Saturday, I’d take a similar result, wouldn’t you?

Tough game but at least we won’t face beret on Diaz. Which may help.

It will be a difficult game on Saturday but we always play well against the top 6 sides Blackburn are a bit of a surprise package they have Diaz missing that could be pivotal on how the game goes hope we have Bradley and Clark back is Burke still suspended for Saturday need are best defence

Ugly win is definitely better than a loss. But the way we’ve played since the enforced break has hardly been scintillating apart from v Bournemouth. Harrogate, Reading and Sheff U were all dull. In some ways it’s a positive – good teams win when not playing well.

But… it Bell is given a chance against his old team we’re in trouble unless he massively improves. He could have cost us 2 points again on a few occasions. With all the (correct) managing of workloads, I’d like to see him rested to find some form. Give Potts a run. Or Fred at left wing back. We can’t keep carrying a player in that position who can’t run byline to byline, nor stop crosses. If he’d have looked at Bree once last night, he’d have seen how to better position himself. It’s no coincidence we concede much more of our opportunities down our left.

And Muskwe probably needs to learn the Luton way out of the limelight. Last night again suggested it’s not fair on him to try to learn in the starting 11 just yet. We looked more balanced when Fred took over.

But it’s NJ’s team and he knows better than me.
