Luton Miss Out On Transfer Window Target

Ahead of the closure of the January transfer window, we ran a poll relating to a player Luton have been constantly linked with.

Our poll asked the simple question:

Will Luton Town Sign Elliot Anderson On Deadline Day?

We didn’t want anyone sitting on the fence, so we offered only YES or NO as the choices.

With the poll now closed we can reveal that 61% believed the media hype and went for the YES option with 39% going for the NO option.

As it turned out the 39% were right with Anderson not unveiled as a Luton player.

Instead, the promising 19-year-old, as reported by Luton Today, opted to continue his professional education, for the immediate future, by deciding to join the League Two side, Bristol Rovers.

It is a decision that will leave many Luton supporters puzzled but it should be remembered that his parent club, Newcastle United, would have agreed certain conditions being met before a deal could be agreed.

My guess is that the number of guaranteed first team games would have been one of those conditions and I’m not sure Luton were willing to do that.

But my belief is that the quality of football he would have experienced in the Championship would have been far better than that he’ll witness in League Two.

Never mind, you can’t win them all!

I dont understand why we were looking at him in the 1st place think our own Eliott Thorpe should be given a chance.

  • Chris Bedford says:

No you certainly don’t ” win them all”. And signing a player , permanent, loan whatever, doesn’t mean winning anything other than a signature, as plenty of other windows especially January ones have proven.

  • Jim says:

Yup. It’s a waste to look at other clubs’ kids when they aren’t ready for our first team football. Anderson wouldn’t have improved our first team. And central midfield is really not an area we needed to improve anyway. We could field an entire outfield 10 of them.

If we needed anyone it was a someone who could chip in with 10+ goals a season. That would have cost, and if the only way to fund that was selling Adebayo it would have been counterproductive. As it is thankfully we can make due. Hopefully Cornick gets match fit and regains his form soon as he’s one we have that has proven he can score goals in support of Adebayo. Failing that, maybe Jerome will find his shooting boots, and come next season or the year after maybe Muskwe could be ready?

strange how we tried to sign a 19 year old but our own young players don’t get a chance.COYH.

    Rumours……

Morning mh, well that window was a lead balloon. But it may have done us a favour. Now nj will have to look to his squad an may be start to utilise his players better. As you have stated we lost players to prohibitive conditions from parent clubs and unrealistic wage demands an number of players where tried to be brought in.

  • Alan says:

To be honest, from what I was hearing, we weren’t really pushing to bring anyone in. A striker was mentioned, but as chris has stated, wage demands rule. At the end of the day we have done ok. Bought in cover for sluga, but not panicked into the transfer window frenzy. It all hype really and keeps sky sport presenters busy.

  • Danny says:

i wonder what plan D will be after Anderson, White and Freeman didn’t haappen ?
Letting Rea leave without a replacement in place sounds like we were pretty sure of landing one of these targets. Any injury to Campbell and we are looking lightweight in centre midfield.

Elliott Thorpe will be in and around squad. All these names were just banded about, as usual. The most important thing is we didn’t lose any body, to important. As long as lansbury stays out of trouble, along with Campbell, osho and Naismith can all play where glen plays.

      • Chris winter says:

Quite right Alan. Plenty of players in the club to cover all positions an now 3 keepers as well so no worries.

      • Danny says:

fair point about not loosing anybody too important being the main objective coming out of this window. With Lansbury averaging a yellow every other game and it being unrealistic to play Campbell every game i don’t think we’ll have to wait too long to see whether the squad has the necessary steel in midfield to be combative or not.

agree with alan, lansbury needs to calm the red mist, apart from that i am happy with our squad.COYH.

  • ChrisR says:

No surprise Anderson didn’t fancy coming – he’ll have seen how Elliot Thorpe has disappeared without trace this season

  • Alan says:

Who said Anderson had the choice to come here???
