Luton Misfit Heading For Portsmouth Move

It was only on Friday that, ahead of the transfer window closing, Nathan Jones admitted the squad, when it comes to numbers, would be reduced.

In our article – boss-admits-players-will-be-sold – we speculated as to whom might be heading for the exit door.

Today, courtesy of Portsmouth FC, it appears that Joe Morrell will be the first to head out through the exit door.

Perhaps a clear indication that the Welsh international midfielder was not long for the Hatters cause came when he did not make the eighteen-man squad selected for the fixture against Peterborough United.

Since signing, last summer, from Bristol City, Morrell’s career has not gone as we hoped it would. Last season the 24-year-old made just 11 appearances and muttering relating to a move away from the club did not exactly endure him to the Hatters support.

With a move to Portsmouth on the horizon, with Pompey obviously impressed by what they saw from the player at the recent Euro 2020 tournament, I am not about to shed any tears at the thought of Morrell moving on.

Sometimes, despite best endeavours, some players just do not live up to expectations and, I am afraid, Morrell fits perfectly into that category.

But that is just my view, is it a view you concur with, or do you think I have been a little harsh on the player?

As I hinted Friday an yesterday about players who would be moving on. Morrell has reached the end of the road at luton. Believing because you are an international does give you the right to expect that you must be a starter in the team.. Failing to train properly claiming injury that no one can get to the bottom of. Then going to the media saying the things he did didn’t help his cause nj an mick tried talking to him an to help him but he’s got an ego problem. I honestly believe nj signed him believing he could help him fulfil his potential but it wasn’t to be. If he doesn’t start regularly for Portsmouth then I think they will have exactly the same issues with him. I hope that he will be able to fulfil his potential there but I suspect he won’t

Totally agree he has a bad attitude and will not be missed

Hi Chris, always on the cards for Morrell. Was thinking after NJ & Mick spoke to him he might have proved his worth….rumours this morning are, offers have been made on 4 outgoings & an offer made on 1 incoming. Nothing set in stone yet tho…..

  • Alan says:

Apparently none of the 4 were in the squad yesterday….we will see….

  • Chris winter says:

It’s strangely quiet from Morrell fans 😊

  • Alan says:

    A kinda hush….

I can’t wait to track the social media responses from the Portsmouth fraternity when he signs!

      • Mike Pompey says:

Was he ever any good for you guys? Sounds like he’s got an ego problem.

        • Mad Hatter says:

an honest answer would be a big NO!

Mike the boy has talent no doubt. But if Nathan an mick Harford an Bristol City can’t get him focused. Then who will? Unless he’s playing week in an out he throws his rattle out of the pram. For the truth is he all but asked for a transfer by saying he didn’t want to play for luton. An that sealed it.

  • Mick says:

Leaving 2 clubs because he does not think he gets enough game time says it all really. Good luck to him he was not missed last year, he will not be this.

  • Andrew says:

Is he leaving with a fee or a free ? I think DH is another to be leaving I went down to Plymouth for the first game he was on fire loved ever since sorry to see him go but he is not getting anywhere near the team now . Thanks Danny

Surely wanting to play instead of sitting on the bench picking up your wages is a good thing.

      • Chris winter says:

Yes it is if you’re putting your heart into getting a place in the team. But he wasn’t interested in doing that. Don’t you read the posts from people who are in the know. The guy has an ego problem!!!!! /
