After a day of cloak and dagger insinuations, Luton have finally moved on a midfielder who many thought was a certainty to be sold.
Yesterday when we awoke, it looked nailed on that our Welsh midfielder, Joe Morrell, would be headed to Portsmouth, but as the day progressed, it appeared that Ipswich Town were also in the running.
However, we can confirm, courtesy of Portsmouth FC, that the player has indeed signed for the south coast side after Morrell drove to Portsmouth yesterday evening to put pen-to-paper on a 3-year deal with the option of another year on his contract.
Perhaps the detail that sealed the move in Portsmouth’s favour was that Morrell has experience of playing under Danny Cowley when he was on loan at Lincoln City, from Bristol City.
As for a transfer fee, the figure, as is often the case, is described as ‘undisclosed’ but any fee is a bonus considering how little he played for Luton during his one season spell with us.
Personally, after his tirade, late last season, where he mentioned leaving Luton was the final nail in his coffin for me.
I advocate that a player needs to be 100% committed to a club others he should be history, as has proven to be the case in this instance.
All that remains to be seen is if Nathan Jones can invest the ‘undisclosed fee’ on another player before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.

Morning mh, already spoken to contacts at Portsmouth. Told them home truths about him. But also said that as long as he’s playing he’ll probably behave maybe lol. It’s what he does on field they should watch carefully. Pointing running round but actually doing little lol.

You’ve had a brain fart moment there MH. We paid an undisclosed fee to Bristol City for Morrell. Sources suggest £250k. Likely we recouped it and upped the sell ons. I think Morrell thinks he’s better than he is, and he’s shot himself in the foot with NJ at some point. I could have told you what was going to happen after his petulant outburst when he was interviewed at the Euros. Despite NJ saying he had a chance with us I’d have put money on Morrell being gone by the end of the transfer window. Oh well …. 🤣

Morning all, so nj has finally admitted that Welsh international Morrell wasn’t good enough to get in last seasons team let alone this years. Says just what a lot of fans were saying all along. Pity it took him so long to realise it!!!! Still no reaction from those who defended him!!!
