This weekend sees the EFL 2020/2021 season come to an end with the play-off finals, at Wembley.

But as far as us football lovers are concerned; it is far from the end of the action.

June and July will see us have our eyes glued to the TV screen as both ITV and BBC cover the Euro 2020 Finals, a year later than anticipated courtesy of the ongoing pandemic.

It will be strange to see such a prestigious competition played in stadia that are far from full, thanks to COVID-19 restrictions.

As far as the Hatters support are concerned, we will be keen to see how Wales do with our own Joe Morrell and Tom Lockyer in the squad.

But it would be churlish for most of us to not want England to win, which brings me round nicely to the crux of this article.

Once again, the pressure is on England s the nation expects.

But yesterday, as Gareth Southgate announced his preliminary 33-man squad, he also announced, as confirmed by The Daily Telegraph, that he had added a familiar face to his coaching team, none other than our former boss, Graeme Jones.

The announcement, as you would expect, brought some cheeky remarks from those that frequent our site, with Danny supplying (so far) the funniest one:

Aidy Boothroyd & now Graeme Jones …….. what chance do we have of ever winning something?

I walked past a betting shop the other day that had a sign in the window saying England 6/1 to win the Euro 2021, the missus asked me what does that actually mean ?

I replied “it means if you put £10 on England ……….. you will lose £10”

But, despite his tenure at Kenilworth Road, it seems that, as a coach, he is well-respected and has been given a lot of credit for turning around Newcastle’s season. It is also pointed out that, on the international stage, he has invaluable experience having worked alongside Roberto Martinez at Belgium.

Perhaps he is destined to be remembered better as a coach than a manager!
