Luton Linked With Signing Scottish International Defender

The last 48-hours has seen Luton Town, along with numerous other clubs, linked with the acquisition of a Scottish international defender.

The defender in question is John Souttar, a 25-year-old who is, currently, on the books of the Scottish Premier League side, Hearts.

But is the speculation likely to lead to a move to Kenilworth Road for the defender?

Unfortunately, while I acknowledge that he would be an excellent signing, I cannot see it happening.

In the lead sentence in this article, I mentioned that numerous other clubs were interested in the defender, according to The Blackpool Gazette, among the clubs interested are – Queens Park Rangers, Stoke City, Blackpool, Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, Preston North End, Celtic and Rangers, a lengthy list.

Such a lengthy list if the player is available would, no doubt, promote a bidding war.

But perhaps the biggest obstacle to Luton signing Souttar is that, in our referenced source, the Hearts manager intimates that the player will only leave Tynecastle, in January, if a ‘huge bid’ is received.

Never mind, I’m not convinced the defence is the area Nathan would be looking to strengthen this January, but is that a view you concur with?

Defender, midfield and attacker required, I’m afraid. Interesting, or rather disappointing, to note that only Bell of the new signings we were so hopeful about in August, made the starting line-up v Cardiff. And what happened to Osho or Pereira or Kioso who were our young hopefuls? Basically we’re playing last season’s team. It’s beginning to look like another survival season at best.
