At just after 17:00 hours Tuesday evening, news broke that the Hatters had decided to send a squad player out on loan.

With 17:00 hours, seemingly being a common time when it comes to announcing deals, the the Official Site confirmed that Carlos Mendes Gomes will spend the remainder of this season on loan at the League One side, Fleetwood Town.

Earlier this summer, here at Vital Luton, Gomes was one of the subjects of our ‘What to Do With” series – what-to-do-with-carlos-mendes-gomes – with the accompanying vote suggesting a loan spell would be the best option for the player considering the lack of first team football he has had since joining us from Morecambe.

But you must have a lot of sympathy for Carlos, when he signed, he was, supposedly, our biggest signing of the summer of 2021.

Sadly, his first team chances, when it came to the Championship, were limited to just 2 starts and 7 more appearances from the bench.

This season I had hoped that Carlos would get more opportunities and when he unleashed that fine strike, against Newport County, I hoped he’d turned the corner.

But, with so many signings made this summer, it appears Carlos has slipped down the pecking order and wasn’t considered a key component in Nathan Jones squad.

Here at Vital Luton, we’ll keep an eye on how Carlos does during his season long loan, but I wouldn’t bet a fortune on him returning to Luton to resurrect his Hatters career, would you?

Good luck Carlos from all of us at Vital Luton Town, hope you score a hatful of goals.
