Luton – Keeping Up With The Jones’

Image for Luton – Keeping Up With The Jones’

An occasional series whereby we take a quick look at how our previous two managers are doing in their new roles.

When Nathan Jones decided to leave Luton Town and throw his lot in with Southampton, his decision surprised and probably disappointed a huge swathe of the Hatters support.

Many doubted that it was the right move for a manager who we believed was to stay at Kenilworth Road for the foreseeable future.

Since moving to the south coast, Nathan has only been in charge for two Premier League games, courtesy of the 2022 World Cup break.

In those two games he has seen his side beaten by Liverpool (a) and Brighton and Hove Albion (h).

As a result, his Southampton side have dropped to the foot of the Premier League table and face a difficult looking fixture, at Fulham, in their next game, fixture I don’t see them getting anything from.

But, more worryingly, Southampton have not looked like a side that have been given fresh impetus by the arrival of a new manager.

Unless Nathan spends wisely in the January transfer window, I can see Southampton slipping through the relegation trap door, how about you?

Meanwhile, taking a look at Graeme Jones, having been axed by the Hatters after a poor run-in charge, Graeme is working alongside Eddie Howe, at Newcastle United and is part of the managerial team that has helped propel Newcastle to third place in the table, a remarkable turnaround for the club.

In doing so has Graeme proven that old adage right about some not being suited for a managerial role but make first class coaches?

Your thoughts would be most appreciated in the comment facility beneath this article.

I think Nathan knew he was likely to find he could’ nt save Southampton this season. Unless they recruit well in January. Or go on one of their runs as usual after Xmas and just escape. But I feel he’s been brought in to do what he was doing at luton and rebuild the club an will be given time to do that. As for Jones at Newcastle he’s just the defensive coach now. And gets little say in anything he’s been banned from running to the touchline. Something he regularly did under the 2 previous coaches if you watched games. As to if he’s actually been effective now that’s up for debate. My family on my dad’s side are typical fans you see on TV no shirts on 😂😂😂 say how is responsible for all things now an Jones is kept in place. Out of sight lol bet he’s still plotting though against howe.

Can you take him back please!!
Reckon if he carries on we will be exchanging divisions……..

I think you’re being unfair to him. Your club has always struggled to find consistency. It seems to me that you’re club want to overhaul everything an see Nathan as the man to do it. You have to face it you looked religation favs before he joined an it may have been to late anyway. So suck it up an give him time

It was a bit tongue in cheek….
However he did have the advantage of basically what was a full pre season to get to know the players..
What happened was we had a team against Brighton that didn’t seem to know where their positions were or what system they were supposed to play.
It just ended up with 4 passes then lump it..
Still as you say,we weren’t setting the division alight previously, so yes a few more games to judge properly.
But as an unknown quantity who already has a black mark against him ,I don’t think it is going to end well for all parties concerned.(Apart from yet another pay off!!)

I hope you are wrong an do survive. But with no striker worth the name to be honest it’s your priority for January. But good luck.

Another defeat for Saints, now it’s very early and no means is he under threat, but should NJ fail at Saints as he did before at Stoke… And with no way back through the door at Luton… Where could that leave him in the future you have to start to be concerned about?
A brilliant young British manager, would hate to seem his CV too scarred to reach his potential in the game.
