Yesterday, in the Championship fixture against Blackpool, a game the Hatters went on to win 3-0, Simon Sluga was noticeable by his absence.
Our Croatian keeper, our record signing, wasn’t dropped with Nathan Jones announcing that he had not travelled with the squad due to illness.
Sluga’s misfortune gave James Shea the chance to deputise and Shea, called upon for the second time in a few games, didn’t let the side down and kept a clean sheet in what were atrocious conditions.
On social media, it was very noticeable that Shea has his supporters, as the following posts illustrate perfectly:
No coincidence that we kept another clean sheet when Sluga didn’t play!

Didn’t put a foot wrong in just about the worst conditions for a keeper.

I think he deserves a couple more games after keeping two clean sheets

Dont drop him

Which leads me on to an intriguing question relating to your preference for whom should be between the posts in Luton’s next match:
Who Should Start v Fulham?
Simon Sluga!
James Shea!
Would you stick with our record signing Simon Sluga (if fit) or go for James Shea?
Clearly, Nathan Jones has a difficult decision to make.

Luton – Nathan Jones Thoughts On A Great Day At Blackpool
Personally I think there is little between them and both have there faults. But I think he deserves a run of games for now.
I agree Chris, even more so if Sluga does want to return home.
Ok but what can he show with 10 minutes to go needs to start a few games if that is the case but that means dropping someone else who is playing better than him at the moment . Doesn’t make sense to me. When other teams have brought on young players they had done well , Chelsea, arsenal just to name a few give them a chance you will never know if you don’t try them . Coyh
Perhaps the 10 mins is to show other clubs he is fit and ready to play. I agree about the youngsters, Chelsea are a great example, half the first team came from within their youth ranks.
Hi Chris & MH, I also think the defense looks a bit more confident with shea behind them. Give him a run now …. just to clear up the change at half time, before all the pelly haters go into melt down, I’m hearing lansbury was feeling unwell at the break….
Lansbury – nothing too serious I hope, we need him next week.
From what I can make, purely a precaution….
Hi all, Shea should now have a few games as when he has come in he has not let us down so far but Fulham is a big test and we can see how he plays . Glad Lansbury was unwell and not just removed to let pelly play . Still like to see Thorpe have ago and why bring on hylton when 5he game is almost won and not someone else to get a run out . Coyh
Perhaps putting Hylton in the January transfer shop window!
