Luton – It Could Have Been Us

Today is the day one Championship club will, via the play-off final, at Wembley, will claim that final promotion place.

Of course, I would it to have been Luton Town filling Wembley, creating a cacophony of noise and going hell for leather to be that team.

But it was not to be!

Our semi-final defeat, at the hands of Huddersfield Town, meant that our play-offs record remained dismal.

Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise though, perhaps the Premier League, at this time in our development as a club, would have come too soon and done some irreparable damage.

Yes, the money would have been good and could well have paid for the Power Court development to be completed, but isn’t the target to build a side capable of consolidating a place in the top-flight in English football and not becoming a yo-yo club?

Therefore, as soon as the Monaco Grand Prix finishes its procession with overtaking almost impossible, I’ll switch channels to tune into the play-off final, contested by our conquerors and Nottingham Forest.

After our exit at the hands of Huddersfield, I posted a poll asking who you thought would win, with 83% opting for Nottingham Forest and only 17% choosing Huddersfield.

Could the unsavoury events that took place after the final whistle at the John Smiths Stadium have influenced the poll or are you, like me, of the opinion that Nottingham Forest are a far better side?
