Luton – Injury Worry Ahead Of Big Kick-Off

The Hatters completed their last fixture of their pre-season friendly campaign yesterday with a home fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Luton’s perfect pre-season record was dented last Saturday when Portsmouth drew with us at Kenilworth Road and yesterday it was further dented when Brighton and Hove Albion beat the Hatters 3-1.

But we should not look too deep into that result, for large periods of the game Luton more than matched their Premier League opponents.

However, what was disappointing was to hear that Dan Potts left the field with what appears to be a hamstring injury.

As is always the case, the injury still needs assessment, but it is a worry, as the new season approaches, that Nathan Jones could do with it.

In his post-match interview and as reported by Luton Today, the gaffer had this to say about the defenders’ injury:

“We’ll have to evaluate that but it looked like a little hamstring thing.

“He’s done big minutes as well again because of Amari’i Bell’s inclusion in the Gold Cup (for Jamaica), so all these things means it’s been totally disjointed.”

Reading between the lines, with Bell having been away on international duty, Potts looked destined to be a starter against Peterborough, next Saturday.

Now whether Potts can recover or not remains to be seen, but here at Vital Luton, I am sure you will join me in wishing Dan a speedy recovery.

However, being churlish, I could ask whether, with Bell on international duty, whether Potts should have been wrapped in cotton wool, but then again, I am guessing, at this moment in the season preparations, match fitness could well be the controlling factor.

Really sorry for Potts but he does seem a bit injury prone compared to others. Is this why Nathan has sought to find additional cover for left back?

As a long time LTFC supporter my thoughts and prayers also go to Alan his family and friends at this difficult time.
