After the Hatters good start to the season, a return of one point from six available, for two home games, was not the return we were all hoping for in the past week.
Okay, I readily accept that defeats happen, but it is, once again, the manner of the defeat that hurts.
Against Brentford, we slipped back into that trait where we never looked as if we were going to trouble the West London side who simply sat back and opted to pick us off at will.
But it is hard to criticise the forwards when, once again, the ball, in the middle of the park, was given away so cheaply.
No doubt Nathan Jones had his game-plan and I suspect, following the defeat, he will have a plethora of reasons as to why Luton lost the game.
Ahead of the game, on social media, doubts were expressed about the starting eleven Nathan had picked, as those listed below show:
Haha now release the real line up

Doesn't look like many goals in that side

And the negative vibes continued after the Hatters were soundly beaten:
Dreadful, terrible performance

Awful

Terrible performance. Far too many errors and absolutely no imagination or cutting edge. Far too easy for Brentford.

It does not make pleasant reading but it is a true reflection of what we witnessed, but it is the lack of the creation of goal scoring chances that befuddled many:
Any chance of having some shots at that net thing?

Thankfully, the Hatters have a chance to redeem themselves in midweek when they take on Rotherham United (a), hereβs hoping that they get the three points otherwise that slip down the Championship table could accelerate.
Hi mh, I have put my thoughts on your previous post. Maybe you can give me. Your thoughts on how we can improve?
I said in the pre-match build-up it was going to be the hardest game of our season so far. Brentford are a good side, they recruit well and almost made the Premier League last season. But NJ picked a side to defend, Morrell should have started and we should have got at them, toothless in attack we need to develop a striker, perhaps Nombe could provide some impetus, some raw talent, some enthusiasm. But I have this feeling that playing at home, behind-closed-doors, is becoming a handicap, no atmosphere, no motivation.
Hi mh, sorry but I have to disagree with you about the no fans now that we have been playing behind closed doors for so long. All teams are used to it and should be professionally good enough to cope. I no longer think that holds water as an excuse. I an Alan said long ago another proper forward was needed an now it’s showing how badly we need one. An the team needs a wake up call that no one is safe in their place unless we get a massive improvement on passing to each other!!! Let’s hope we see that at Rotherham we must win that game
yes we must, otherwise our slip down the table will be accelerated and we could get dragged in to a repeat of last season
