Luton End Speculation Related To A New Goalkeeper

Any speculation regarding the possible recruitment of another goalkeeper was ended yesterday.

All summer, speculation had been rife that Luton could be looking at bringing back a familiar face to assist Simon Sluga and James Shea in the event of injuries / suspension requiring Luton to have an experienced third goalkeeper.

As we reported earlier this summer – this-transfer-rumour-just-wont-go-away – the transfer grapevine implied that Christian Walton could be our man.

The possible need for another keeper had arisen due to Luton announcing that Harry Isted, at the conclusion of last season, had been released.

But what appeared to be a cloudy picture, got cloudier when Isted started to appear on the team sheets for the Hatters pre-season friendly fixtures against Hitchin Town, Rochdale and Bedford Town, which led us to ask the question whether the 24-year-old may be offered a new deal.

Indeed, that proved to be exactly the case when the Official Luton Town site, reported that Isted had indeed put pen-to-paper on a contract offer which was on the table.

Which begs us to ask the question, was that deal always on the table or did the Hatters hierarchy realise that it was a case of the better the devil you know?

Your thoughts on the subject matter would be greatly appreciated in the comment facility beneath this article.
