Amidst the worrying storm of players heading out of the Kenilworth Road exit, we have a moment when there is calm in the air.
Last week, here on Vital Luton Town, we were of the belief that our captain would be leaving the club.
Our article – surprise-interest-in-hatters-defender – covered Sonny with a move to League One Ipswich Town with the Suffolk club keen to recruit this summer as they chase promotion next season.
However, news broke late yesterday, courtesy of, Football Insider 24/7 that Sonny had changed his mind and is now set to extend his stay at Kenilworth Road.
Last season, Sonny was a mainstay of the Hatters defence making 36 appearances in the Championship and the news that he is willing to put pen-to-paper on a new deal will see his 3-year stay with the club extended.
It also negates a recent poll we held asking who, if Sonny were to leave, would be the Hatters next question.
The news is, to me, totally unexpected but most welcome, Sonny is a leader on the pitch and that is something that we may need more than ever next season as Nathan Jones looks to revamp his squad.
But the devil inside me is asking whether Sonny would have made the same decision if Matty Pearson had opted to stay?
With Naismith and Lockyer also available, could he have viewed the situation as a case of too many cooks?
Your thoughts please?

Luton – Former Hatter Steps Into Management Role
Morning mh, As you say we did seem to have a surfeit of centre half’s. But with Pearson gone I’m expecting it to be lockyer an Bradley our usual pairing with naismith osho as back up. I don’t have a problem with that. Also if potts stays him as well.
Could we play with a back three and wing backs?
Of course we can look at what we’ve got bree potts lockyer Bradley osho crane naismith kioso to start with
Having been 67 years a hatters man I have seen this time and time again .Getting good followed by departures and then slipping down the leagues please Nathan Jones and Gary Sweet don’t let this happen again
Hi all, hopefully that’s the defence sorted…l.think a fully fit lockyer is like a new signing, fingers crossed…
Hi M H, certainly welcome news re Sonny. Biggest thing now is finding an adequate replacement for K D H. Collins departure I can live with
Well at least we still have Lockyer and Naismith
Pleased to hear Bradley maybe staying ,good captain bit like Steve Forster someone to rely on . But we need that one midfielder to open defences ,someone to run the midfield .
