With Nathan Jones gone, to Southampton, it is time to start looking at who might be the one to replace him.
At the moment the Hatters are blessed with time as, after the Saturday fixture against Rotherham, United, there is a month-long break for the World Cup.
Here at Vital Luton Town, we expect that the board will have a short-list, but how many candidates are on that list is, at the moment, the big unknown.
But one name that has surfaces as a possible candidate, in several media sources, including Luton Today is Neil Critchley.
But what do we know about Critchley?
At 44-years-of-age, Critchley is currently unemployed after Steven Gerrard’s regime, at Aston Villa, was axed.
Earlier in his coaching / managerial career, he was in charge of the Liverpool U18’s before being appointed head coach at Blackpool.
At Bloomfield Road he enjoyed relative success achieving promotion to the Championship, albeit via the play-offs, before, in Blackpool’s first season back in the Championship, guiding them to a respectable 16th place on a limited budget.
Critchley severed his connections with Blackpool, in June 2022, when he joined steven Gerrard, at Aston Villa, as assistant head coach.
Clearly, Critchley has the background to be considered a candidate, but my one concern is whether his loyalty would be tested if / when Steven Gerrard gets another top post and wants Neil to be part of his backroom staff.
But what are your feelings on Critchley succeeding Nathan Jones?
