Luton – Captured On Vinyl For Ever

Does anyone remember the bygone era when football 45’s were all the rage?

Whenever an FA Cup Final came around, or a World Cup, it was, inevitably accompanied by the release of a record.

Ones that instantly spring to mind include:

• Blue Is The Colour (Chelsea)
• Back Home (England)
• The Anfield Rap (Liverpool)

None, I have to admit were musical masterpieces but, I ‘m guessing, they all served a purpose.

Even our beloved Luton Town FC got in on the act releasing what I believe to be a Double-A side featuring:

• Hatters, Hatters

And

• We Are Luton Town You Know

With the Baron Knights being the musical driving force behind the tunes.

Once again, I’ll readily admit it wasn’t a masterpiece and wouldn’t make my selection of Desert Island Discs.

But that isn’t the only time the ‘Hatters Hatters’ tune made it to vinyl.

The popular Luton punk group, UK Decay, resurrected the song for an EP designed to raise funds for charity with the EP being called – Wonderful Town.

To me it is a far superior version and one that needs a listen to:

But will we ever see another 45 released featuring Luton Town?
