Hull boss Peter Taylor is reported to be favourite to succeed Iain Dowie as Crystal Palace manager. The Selhurst park club confirmed that he is one of two contenders, the other of whom is rumoured to be Town boss Mike Newell.

Palace money man Simon Jordan is believed to have interviewed Taylor and one other (Newell?) last week and it is possible that the succcessful candidate will be announced early this week perhaps even today.

Taylor explained to Hull Daily Mail that Hull chairman Adam Pearson wants an early decision from Jordan.

Graham Souness was also spoken to but he withdrew from the process after the interview.

Ian Dowie resigned from the position a month ago allegedly stating that he wanted to move back North, but then took the vacant Charlton job. Reports then surfaced that Jordan was considering suing Dowie for misleading him over his reasons for leaving.

Meanwhile ex Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy is Taylor’s likely replacement at Hull City should Taylor’s probable exit ensue.
