Luton Boss Pleased With Reading Performance

As far as 0-0 draws go, the one, last night, against Reading was not too bad.

Once again, for the second consecutive home game, the Hatters bossed the game and could well have, if our finishing was sharper, have taken all three points.

But what is particularly pleasing is that these two good performances have come against two sides that occupy positions in the upper echelons of the Championship, Watford who look destined to secure that second automatic promotion place and Reading who have ambitions of securing a play-off place.

After the game, despite dropping two points, the Hatters boss, Nathan Jones, enthused about the performance his side gave, remarking, as reported by Luton Today,

“I thought we were excellent.

“If I’m honest I’m a little bit disappointed that we didn’t win the game. Delighted with the level of performance, especially coming off the back of a high-level performance against Watford. We backed that up today against a wonderful football side that if you let them settle, they can hurt you.”

Indeed, they can, we all remember how Luton were dismantled 5-0 in the corresponding fixture last season.

Continuing, Nathan added,

“We went after them and I thought we controlled the tempo, we were aggressive in everything that we did and probably with a bit more quality we would have gone into half-time in the lead.

“Late on they threw every centre-forward they have in their squad on the pitch to try and win the game and fair play to them, but we had all the best chances, the better of possession and I was really pleased with the performance. It shows that we are evolving nicely and we showed real aggression. I am really happy with the performance, little bit disappointed with the result.”

Yes, Reading did go for it, knowing a win was far more preferable than a draw with Barnsley now opening up a gap between themselves and Reading which, with games running out, may be difficult to close.

This weekend, the Hatters are in the West country, taking on Bristol City, is it too much to hope for consistency and another performance of the calibre we have witnessed in the last two games?

i am not the biggest fan of ruddock, and when he plays well people rave about him. is it only me that gets annoyed by the same simple mistakes he makes, losing the ball when it gets stuck by his feet.his passing last night was terrible for a championship player. i know he is one of n.j.s faves, but it must drive him crazy with his lack of basic skills. also why does pearson pass the ball so hard, people cant comtrol balls at that speed. apart from that good display last night, took the game to them.C.O.Y.H.

indeed as we saw with McNulty though for a very big lad McNulty did have a deft touch which you don’t see often. Pearsons also a big unit and nothing wrong with an old fashioned CH, blood & thunder and letting opposition strikers know they are there, just got to make sure the timing is right.

I tell you something take pelly out of that sude, you will miss him…all players lose the ball…watch any game, any midfielder who constantly gets involved, will lose possession at tines….what about the tackles and the amount of times he caused their players to lose possession….give the bloke a f**in break…

  • Alan says:

Add to that the amount of times he gets fouled…seems opposing teams think more highly of him than many of our own support…

  • Danny says:

with all the knocks he takes on & off the pitch it’s just as well he’s made of granite

Hi Danny, think your right mate. Biggest thing that gets to me is when some say he isn’t a championship player….we are 12th and he has played 2 seasons in this league….I’m not saying he is perfect, but his attitude and steel will do for me….like you comments on pearson too….no nonsense player…another who gets a lot of stick…..

  • Danny says:

Hi Alan, i think some forget he has progressed from non-league and need to cut him some slack. Andre Gray was also non-league and his first touch was awful, still not great now, yet because he scored plenty of goals he escaped the same level of criticism. Pellys still evolving as a player and let’s be honest if he didn’t make these mistakes and was putting in consistent 9/10 ratings every game he would have been poached long ago and would be playing at a higher level.

Quite right mate, some just don’t realise that….
