Well, I wasn’t expecting that but were you, it just goes to show that, in football, always expected the unexpected.

The transfer window may be closed but players can still be added to squads if they satisfy both of the following options:

1 – There is a place available in the squad

and

2 – The player is a free agent.

This afternoon, Luton announced via their Official Site that they have signed Robert Snodgrass, a player who fits both of the above criteria.

Snodgrass, who was released by West Bromwich Albion, in January, has signed on the dotted line until the end of the season.

The 34-year-old midfielder is vastly experienced and has played international football for Scotland.

Nathan Jones, seems particularly pleased with the latest addition to the squad, remarking on the Official Site

“We’ve brought Snoddy in because of the experience he gives us, the wonderful quality that he has, and it became the right time to do it.

“We’ve been looking for a left footed midfield player for a while and we’ve picked up a few injuries in the midfield area, and so he ticks a lot of boxes.

“He’s got play-off experience, he’s got Premier League experience and he is known to a number of our players and staff, so we know he’s the type of character that we want in here.

“It gives us something different now we are in the final third of the season and he’ll give us a little bit of a push towards the run-in.”

With Luton handily placed, in 8th position in the Championship table, Snodgrass could well play a crucial part in the remaining fixtures as the Hatters push for a place in the top tier of English football.

Being a free agent, I suspect that Snodgrass may have been around the training ground for a couple of weeks now, while a deal was agreed.

As well as Nathan being pleased with this signing, it appears those who frequent social media are also praising the move with comments being posted, not only by Luton Town fans, but fans of clubs he has previously played for, as the following show:

All that remains to be asked is whether he starts against Derby County tomorrow and whether he is cup-tied ahead of the forthcoming titanic tussle with Chelsea, on Wednesday.

Can anybody enlighten me?
