In a couple of weeks’ time, in the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur will entertain Chelsea, at the North London clubs sparkling new stadium.
According to the The BBC, it is hoped that the fixture will set a landmark by becoming world’s first net zero carbon fixture.
But to do so, both clubs are working hard to cut emissions.
Typical actions that are being taken are:
• The teams will arrive at the stadium on coaches powered by bio-fuel.
• The players will be drinking water from sustainable cartons as opposed to plastic bottles.
• Supporters are being encouraged to the stadium via bicycle or public transport as opposed t driving their own vehicles.
• Supporters will be asked to partake in consuming plant-based food from the kiosks inside the ground instead of the traditional burgers.
It all seems a mile away from the early days when I first started going to Kenilworth Road, an era when buses belched out diesel fumes, we sat upstairs surround by a blue fog of cigarette smoke and then tucked into a burger soaked with greasy onions.
Is it progress or is the world going mad is the question I would like answered?
But one thing that did make me chuckle when I read the article was the thought of 3000 Chelsea supporters arriving, as one, on bicycles and charging down the Seven Sisters Road like knights of old!

Luton – Two New Players Or Just Youngsters
Typical BBC biased journalism. Prem favouritism. Ignore the fact that forest Green have been encouraging this type of thing for over a decade!!!
according to the BBC, football starts and finishes with the Premier League, with regards to Forest Green am I right in saying their new ground is built completely from wood?
I’m led to believe it’s all from sustainable wood. An all outlets are veggie. An I think the kit is also made to be biodegradable. But its been 5 years since I last went there.
fair play to them, although you can’t beat a soggy under-cooked beefburger 🙂
Or a northern pie cold!!! 😁
