Luton – A Missed Opportunity

Image for Luton – A Missed Opportunity

I’ve always viewed the loan system as something that clubs should readily take advantage of.

If someone at the club is not getting the opportunity to play, in the first team, then if a chance arrives to go out on loan to another club arises then it should be given serious consideration.

But is it a ploy that can backfire?

The reason I ask is that, back in September, it was announced that our 21-year-old midfielder, Elliott Thorpe, would be joining the League One club, Burton Albion, for the season.

With Thorpe struggling to get game time, at Kenilworth Road, it seemed to be the ideal opportunity for Elliott to get some much-needed fist team football.

But it doesn’t seem to have worked out that way!

Looking at the statistics, Thorpe has only made 1 start for Burton and in his 5 appearances has only accumulated 114 minutes of first team football.

With that being the case shouldn’t Luton be asking questions about the validity of the loan?

Although I accept that Burton have undergone a managerial change, with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who recruited Elliott, having left the club, I’d still have expected our young midfielder to feature more.

But what are your views on the subject matter?
