Luton – A Big Wednesday Afternoon Transfer Rumour

Image for Luton – A Big Wednesday Afternoon Transfer Rumour

Much to my relief, as an amateur hack, transfer speculation is rife at the moment.

Yesterday, the Hatters completed the signing of Fred Onyedinma – luton-move-quick-to-secure-first-summer-signing – this afternoon Luton are, courtesy of the media source, Football Insider 24/7, being linked with the acquisition of the Sunderland player, Luke O’Nien.

O’Nien is out of contract and is available on a free transfer. Sunderland would like the player to sign a new deal but after their hopes of promotion to the Championship failed, O’Nien could be looking to play Championship football.

To that effect, our referenced source is pointing out that several clubs, apart from us, are interested, with Preston North End, Middlesbrough and Millwall all getting honourable mentions.

At 26-years-of-age, O’Nien would, in my opinion, be a good signing.

Last season O’Nien played in numerous positions for the Black Cats, including centre-back, right-back, central midfield and right midfield, it is rare to find a player with such versatility an asset for any club I would say.

With no transfer fee involved, Nathan Jones will have to be very persuasive to bring the player to Kenilworth Road, with the influencing factors being the salary offered and the portrayal of the clubs future ambitions.

Here at Vital Luton, we will keep an eye on proceedings and report back as deemed necessary.

Fantastic player. I’ve followed him for a few years, and although he is now mostly a RB/RWB, when he played for Wycombe a few seasons back, he was an awesome box to box midfielder. CM is probably the position I would play him in.

If we get him I will be very happy!

This is a player nj has tried to sign before. But he went to Sunderland. Nj is still a big admirer an could be a goer

Hi all, useful player o’nien, good age again too. Would be a good addition. Don’t know if Chris has heard the same, but I heard this morning the only contact concerning KDH is another season long loan but only if other targets aren’t met….

    • Chris winter says:

Hi Alan, put it this way Alan, if I see kdh in a luton shirt next season I will playing along side him!!!! He won’t be coming back of that I’m certain.

    • Chris winter says:

And Alan as I understand it if we get who we want. Then we will not be going down the loan route at all. We will go using only our own players. The exception being a striker.

  • Alan says:

That’s what I said chris, only contact will he if we don’t get our targets….from what I heard this morning, the club are confident of getting pretty much all the ones they are chasing…

I do like what I am hearing about Luke but it just shows how far we have come in a year that people are talking us up to push on again this coming season , like so many of us I still think of Luton as big club when we were winning the League cup beating Liverpool and man utd and all the London teams , but to be where we are now as to five or six years ago it brilliant. Glad Bradley and potts have resigned like two new signing there .

  • Peter Scott says:

It must be a really special signing and only KDH returning meets that criteria

    • Chris winter says:

Sorry to disappoint you Peter but don’t expect to see kdh in a luton shirt next season. You need to move on from him. It’s about the team now.

  • Alan says:

Sorry but I think people need to forget about KDH. Similar situation as Carter vickers last year. Would be good but it ain’t gonna happen especially as a permanent signing….

  • andrew says:

Kdh was a great player for us but we have to move on and look to our youth team love to see more kids coming through. It’s hard to find class

  • jimbo says:

when i saw kdh on the radar again, thought it was april fools day!!!!!!!!COYH

  • hatter75 says:

Lets hope we can sign this versatile player as soon as possible. Just seen Joe Piggott of Sheffield Wednesday is available on a free What a signing that would make? 20 goals last season.

  • jimbo says:

agree joe pigot would be a good signing, lets wait and see.o,nien would be another.COYH

  • Chris winter says:

Why would we want piggott back he did not suit our style of play when he was here. And nothing has changed so why look backwards???

  • hatter75 says:

If we want to move up the table we need to score more goals given last seasons figures. The team and manager are quite capable of changing style of play to suit both players and the opposition. In a team that is relegated to score 20 goals is a sign of a hard working player taking all the chances that are presented to him.
Perhaps with better quality midfield players and wing/backs now at Luton Piggott would benefit from the service provided.

  • jimbo says:

well said hatter 75. the midfield is luton,s achilles heel. dribbling and good passing are essential. very happy with signings so far.COYH

  • Alan says:

Hi all, many on here felt the whole team was the achilles heal…lol…
