It’s only when you reflect on the transfer business, of last summer, that you realise how many new players came to the club.
In our ongoing series, whereby we reflect on how those signings progressed yesterday we covered – Reece Burke
Today, we move on to cover the 6th signing of the summer of 2021, Cameron Jerome.
Jerome, 35-years-of-age, arrived at Kenilworth Road having played for a raft of clubs:
• Middlesbrough
• Cardiff City
• Birmingham City
• Crystal Palace (loan)
• Norwich City
• Derby County
• Göztepe (Turkey)
• MK Dons
and brought some experience to the striking department that, apart from Danny Hylton, lacked.
Jerome signed for the Hatters on 01-July-2021, on a free transfer from MK Dons.
I viewed his signing as one that would provide back-up to Elijah Adebayo while also giving, if the opportunity was required, for Nathan Jones to opt to play a longer ball style.
I didn’t see Jerome being a regular and I wondered just how many games he would get in the Championship.
As it turned out Jerome started 14 Championship games and made a further 17 appearances from the bench, scoring 3 goals, these coming against West Bromwich Albion (h), Stoke City (a) and Queens Park Rangers (h).
In the domestic cups, he featured in all 3 FA Cup games starting 2 and coming off the bench for the third., scoring just the 1 goal, against Harrogate Town.
As for the EFL Cup, he featured in our only tie, before we were knocked out, against Stevenage, but also got on the score sheet.
But how would you rate Cameron Jerome’s first season with the Hatters?

My view is that Jerome provided just what Nathan Jones wanted, when called upon. At 35-years-of-age, his fitness levels were always going to mean 90 minutes would be a struggle, but whilst on the pitch he gave his all. Perhaps a better goals per game ratio would have supplemented his season, but his experience was, in my view, invaluable.
