Is This A Hindrance Or A Bonus For Luton Town As They Seek To Pull Off The Great Escape?

In an article we published earlier this week, I predicted how many points Luton Town would finish the 2019 / 2020 season with.

Our article – 50-points-is-my-predicted-finish-total-for-luton-town-but-will-it-be-enough – also asked the vital question as to whether that points total would be enough to guarantee our status as a Championship side next season.

In the article though, it became obvious that many of Luton’s remaining games are against what we deemed to be ‘mid-table’ sides, which, got me thinking.

With fixtures against the likes of:

• Swansea City
• Reading
• Queens Park Rangers

and

• Blackburn Rovers

to come, does that give Luton the edge in their relegation battle or could it be a hindrance?

It could be argued that the sides in mid-table might feel as if they are going through the motions and don’t have as much to play for as those sides with promotion or relegation on their minds.

Or could it have an adverse effect?

Could the Hatters come against sides who will be able to play with a free spirit not too concerned about having to gather points?

It’s an interesting train of thought which could also be added to if you throw into the equation that perhaps nobody, in mid-table, is actually safe with 27 points to play for the scenario could change dramatically.

My view is that I’d rather be playing against sides that are in the same position as us or are going for promotion which makes the games against:

• Preston North End
• Leeds United
• Huddersfield Town
• Barnsley

and

• Hull City

all the more important to ensure we collect points from.

But is that a view you agree with?

Please feel free to offer your viewpoint in the comment facility beneath this article.
