I Do Not Believe This Striker Will Sign For Luton

Glancing through the sources available to us, speculation relating to possible Luton transfer activity is scarce.

Indeed, at the moment, all I can find is a piece of transfer tittle-tattle relating to the out of contract AFC Wimbledon striker, Joe Pigott.

Now regular visitors to Vital Luton Town will recall we have covered the possibility of Joe returning to Kenilworth Road, with the latest offering being – luton-linked-with-a-return-of-someone-we-all-know.

However, with Nathan Jones already having two powerful strikers at his disposal, in the shape of Elijah Adebayo and Cameron Jerome, I am not sure, even though he netted 22 goals in 52 appearances for Wimbledon, whether Pigott is the kind of striker Luton are looking for.

Therefore, I must admit I would not be that surprised if he were to sign for one of our reputed rivals when it comes to his signature.

Perhaps, with Portsmouth, Bristol City and Sunderland said to be interested, it might be the latter who emerge victorious.

The Portsmouth News, probably accepting Pigott will not sign for Portsmouth, carries some interesting comments from the former Sunderland striker, Kevin Phillips, who believes Pigott might be tempted to Wearside by the possibility of becoming a cult hero, or as Kevin puts it:

“His stats speak for themselves. A record of nearly one in two is a great strike rate.

“My only worry is, coming from Wimbledon, can he handle the pressure of playing for Sunderland.

“No disrespect to Wimbledon but Sunderland is a big step up.

“I haven’t seen too much of Pigott but the lad can score goals, that is clear.

“If Lee Johnson can get Pigott in and he scores a lot of goals for Sunderland he will be a hero straight away.”

But one question Pigott might be asking himself is whether he fancies another season in League One or whether he feels he can do a job for a Championship side?

As I said earlier, I do not think he will become a Luton player again, but you just never know in this game, do you?
