Young Luton keeper Rob Beckwith has joined Chesterfield on loan for a month, replacing veteran keeper Carl Muggleton who has left the Spireites ‘by mutual consent’.

He will go straight into the team for the home game against Scunthorpe United, since regular keeper Barry Roche has a thigh injury.

Manager, Roy McFarland stated:

‘The loan signing has been made to provide more cover as Barry is still out for a couple more weeks.

‘Carl Muggleton has been a tremendous professional and has served Chesterfield very well. We thank him for his excellent contribution to the cause and wish him all the best for the future.’

Muggleton leaves after an association with the Spireites lasting four years in three separate spells.

For Beckwith, this is a big step forward in his development, which was severely hampered by a serious injury, just as he was making his mark with Luton Town.
