Yesterday, when the team sheets were announced, the announcement of who was captaining the side surprised me.
With Tom Lockyer suspended, Rob Edwards chose to give the armband to Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu.
Following the disclosure, I half expected a few negative comments regarding the selection but they were not forthcoming, leading me to believe that the midfielder may, finally, have won all the support over, or is that just impossible?
Since Rob Edwards took over the managerial hot seat, Pelly appears to have enjoyed a new lease of life and, forced to fill in as a defender due to another injury hitting our team, Pelly did an admirable job.
This morning, tuning into social media, there are a raft of posts saluting Pelly on his versatility:
El Capitano!
And a right back as well now… You bring everything and you give everything. What a fantastic role model to any young player.— Catherine Walsh (@Catheri67016435) February 25, 2023
And, somewhere down the line, the possibility of a testimonial:
Not long until a testimonial! Unheard of in this era 🧡🧡

Now I’m not sure, if I were to be honest, Pelly would be leading the race for such an honour.
However, there is no denying the following:
A very special part of Luton’s history. An absolute legend.

Indeed he is and if, as we all hope, the Hatters finally make a return to top-flight football, what better honour than this one below:
If we make it to the Premier League this fella should lead us out as Captain first game.

From non-league to Premier League, now that would be some unique achievement would it not?

Luton – The Four Game Challenge
Every player says he is the life blood of the changing room and our longest serving player with most appearances for the club.
Seems more strange that he hasn’t been Captain more often.
Drameh didn’t look 100% at the races yesterday… But the boys bounced back in much better shape than my pessimistic prediction.
Think jack cork with Wimbledon was the last player to achieve going through the league’s.but I could be wrong.think Steve he’s still carrying his knock but with injuries in defence was badly needed.
Alan Cork?
Yeah sorry mh memories going old age I’m afraid lol.
