Two games in three days, is always likely to cause problems.

With Luton grinding out a decent 0-0 draw at promotion favourites Forest Green Rovers, on Saturday, John Still now has to focus on the visit of Cambridge United this Bank Holiday Monday.

But, playing two games in such a short space of time does have its problems when it comes to risking players who might not be quite fit.

On Saturday, at Forest Green, Still decided to play Jon Shaw even though the striker was nursing a hernia problem, Shaw didn`t last the distance and was substituted around the hour mark. Matters were compounded on the striking front by Alex Wall missing through illness.

Discussing the situation with the local media, Still remarked about his striker situation,

“We`re struggling with centre forwards a little bit. Alex Wall is not quite fit and Jon`s (Shaw) carrying an injury.”

“But having said that, Jon first half (against Rovers) was superb. He had a bit of a problem with his groin, but I felt he was a threat from our attacks.”

“We could get the ball into him, he`s worked hard, forced them to play long early. But we`ve got to look after him properly.”

My money is on Shaw having to grin and bear it again this afternoon.

Elsewhere in midfield, Jonathan Smith put in a shift and a half on Saturday but Still could be contemplating changes.

Solomon Taiwo and Alex Lawless are approaching full fitness whilst Jake Howells could earn a start, with Still adding in his pre-match discussion with the local media,

“I think they`re both (Taiwo and Lawless) very close. I feel sorry for Alex, he just gets back and then gets a little niggle, which happens sometimes when you`ve been out for a little while, but they`re not going to be long.”

“We`ve trained on Sunday morning and we won`t make any decisions on any of our players until we meet up and see how they are.”

“Jake`s done ever so well. We`ve got good competition for tomorrow, so hopefully everyone`s fit.”

So as you can see, Still has some major decisions to make as we embark on the first of a run of games against the sides that fell by the promotion wayside at the play-off stage last season.
