Earlier this month, well all of seventy-two hours ago, here at Vital Luton Town, we reported on Luton’s apparent interest in an international midfielder.
Our article – luton-town-interested-in-signing-international-midfielder – speculated on the chances of the Republic of Ireland midfielder, Conor Hourihane joining the Hatters.
Today we can reveal that it is a move that is not going to happen with the BBC confirming that the 31-year-old has opted to join Derby County, putting pen-to-paper on a 2-year deal.
My first reaction was that Conor has opted for the safety of playing League One football instead of Championship football.
But, just perhaps, Derby County, with their new owners, can splash the cash and have convinced Hourihane that they have a vision of an instant return to the Championship.
Or perhaps it is, as a good friend put it, he couldn’t guarantee himself a place in a Hatters midfield that has a very competitive feel about it when it comes to a starting place.
Whatever the reason, I’ll console myself that there are plenty of other fish in the sea!
