Luton – Whatever Next I Ask

With the 2022 World Cup in full swing, I, among others, couldn’t help but notice a rule change brought in by the Scottish FA.

According to the BBC, the Scottish FA are to forbid the art of heading on the day before a match and also on the day after, on the back of the suspicion that continual heading of the ball results in damage to the brain.

It is a controversial decision and it’ll be interesting to see if the initiative is adopted by other Football Associations around the globe.

Also, I can’t help wondering how it is going to be policed, it’s a basic footballing instinct to head the ball clear, if the opportunity arises, training sessions before games could be interesting affairs.

Naturally, down the local pub, ahead of the England game last night, the topic was discussed in some depth but, for those who doubt that change is a continual process, I’ll leave you with the priceless words of a friend of mine who, when talking about the subject matter of this article remarked:

“Well, did you ever think, when we were youngsters, the art of tackling with man taking on man, via physical contact to win the ball, be so diminished?”

Your thoughts please.
