Luton v Watford – Blast From The Past (4)

It is fifteen years since we last played Watford, at Kenilworth Road, but the intense rivalry between the two clubs continues to enthrall.

In the build-up to the local derby, we have taken time out to dip into the archived and cover some of the many games in which the Hatters have emerged victorious.

For those who may have missed them, please click on the links below to access them:

Today, in what will probably be the last in this series of articles, we have gone back over 50 years for our latest recollection.

The date is 12th December 1970, and the Hatters made the short trip to Watford to take on their near rivals in front of the biggest crowd of the season, so far, at Vicarage Road.

The team that day was:

Luton – Read, Ryan (John), Bannister, Hoy, Nicholl, Slough, Ryan (Jimmy), Court, MacDonald, Keen, Givens

Sub – Collins

The Hatters were to win by a solitary goal, a sweet header from Mike Keen, a header that sent the travelling support into raptures.

Can you spot yourself or anybody you know in the jubilant away support?

And just how powerful does Malcolm MacDonald look?

Enjoy the footage as the countdown to derby day continues.
