Luton Town – You Tell Him Alfie My Son

As has often been the case, this season, I’ve not managed to get a ticket for an away game.

On Boxing Day (yesterday) I had to be content with watching the action as broadcast live by Amazon Prime.

I’ll admit it was the first time I’ve watched this particular broadcaster when it comes to Premier League football and I have to say I was impressed and I’d have no hesitation about, if the need arose, tuning in again.

But one particular incident, early on in the game made me laugh.

Having won a corner, Alfie Doughty came over to the corner flag to deliver the ball into the box, but before he could deliver it, some rotund, ageing Yorkshireman, for some reason, took offence to Alfie and you could see him delivering a barrage of abuse aimed in the direction of our attacking wing-back.

Now this happened several times before Alfie could take the corner and with no action being taken by the stewards in that corner of the ground.

Instead, all you could hear was Alfie clearly muttering on three or four occasions:

“I can’t hear you; I can’t hear you!”

But I’m sure, in reality, Alfie could because immediately after he’d scored, he turned and ran towards that precise part of the ground that the verbal tirade had come from and put his finger to his lips asking for silence!

For me, it was a magical moment and I’m disappointed it wasn’t picked up by the broadcasters.
