As far as a footballer goes, being sent out on loan then watching, from afar, as your team mates achieve promotion, to the top-flight, must be a strange experience.

Let’s take the case of Carlos Mendes Gomes.

Back on 26-June-2021, Carlos signed for Luton Town, after having had an impressive season for Morecambe, once again, when it comes to a fee, we were left in the dark, with the word ‘undisclosed‘ being banded about.

The 2021/2022 season, for Carlo, wasn’t a particularly memorable one for the young winger / forward with only 9 league starts coming his way.

Last summer, Nathan Jones, still at the managerial helm, decided that Carlos might be better served if he were sent out on loan, with Fleetwood Town being the chosen destination.

Carlo would have seen the opportunity as one whereby he could get regular first team football and hopfully impress those he’d left behind at Kenilworth Road.

While at Fleetwood Town, Carlos made 32 legue appearances, scoring on 7 occasions.

But any hopes he had of returning to Kenilworth Road, to continue his career in the top-flight, look to have been dashed, with transfer speculation linking the player with a move to the League One side, Bolton Wanderers.

Indeed, according to Burnden Aces, the deal is close to going through with a fee, circa £300,000 changing hands.

It just goes to show the highs and lows of the professional game with others signed the same summer as Carlos getting ready for Premier League football and Carlos set to play two rungs further down the ladder!
